Our housekeeping supervisor, David Rushforth, is a remarkably fresh-faced fella, for someone that has dealt with over a decade of hotel housekeeping and all the stresses of ensuring premises are spotlessly clean and comfortable. He asked us not to use a photo that showed how ‘old’ he is (27). Crazy, but it’s that perfectionist streak that makes him so good at organising our dedicated housekeeping staff and maintaining our ApartHotels’ award-winning standards, meaning a great guest experience for you!
Hi David, how long have you been at Blue Rainbow’s Edinburgh ApartHotels?
I only started here on the 28th of March, so not too long! I was aware of the company before I started though. I remember driving by the Edinburgh apartment building a few times and thinking: ‘Oh that hotel looks nice, love the pink curtains.’.
How is it working in one of Europe’s top ten tourist destinations? Any top tips on what to see/do?
Edinburgh is such a fantastic City – who wouldn’t want to live and work here? There are so many attractions to visit – Edinburgh Castle, The Palace of Holyrood and not forgetting, of course, the scary tales of the old city – they take place underground, watch out for the ghosts!
What did you do before joining Blue Rainbow?
Before being offered this role, I was the assistant general manager of a rival hotel franchise. I’ve worked in the industry since I left school (just last year! – kidding, I wish) so that’s been about 11 years now. I love it.
Some of the Manchester team have mentioned how good looking they are – how do you guys north of the border measure up by comparison?
Hmm, that’s a hard one. Given that Manchester is our head office, I should probably be nice to them, but in fact the Edinburgh team are indeed more attractive (in our own special way).
Which of your unique qualities do you feel are an advantage in your particular position?
I think the reason why I love the hotel industry so much – apart from the looong hours, of course – is that I get the opportunity to meet so many different kinds of people. Dealing with guests of different nationalities and walks of life over the years has fuelled my passion for what I do and given me the skills and experience to be able to provide our guests with top-class customer service. By delivering this to everyone who stays with Blue Rainbow I can help ensure their stay with us is a memorable one.
Who would be your dream Blue Rainbow ApartHotels guest?
My Dream Blue Rainbow Guest? It’s taken me more than ten minutes to come up with an answer to this question. I’m going to have to echo the sentiments of Kris from our reservations team and say Zac Efron, although it wouldn’t be professional of me to go into the details of why!
