If you’re after a bit of a laugh this month, perhaps we can help. No, we’re not about to tell you a joke (we always forget the punchines), but we might be able to help you find somewhere to stay during the Edinburgh Comedy Festival, taking place between the 3rd and 29th at various venues throughout the city, as part of the Fringe.
Forget the enormo-dome, top-price tours of Manford and McIntyre – the Edinburgh fringe is the place to catch tomorrow’s comedy superstars on their way up, as well as established cult heroes and international stars performing in more intimate settings.
At the Pleasance Theatre, you could see previous festival award winners such as Paul Merton, Rich Hall and Russell Kane. The programme at the Underbelly includes Ruby Wax and the very different but equally unusual Paul Foot and Tom Green. And at the legendary Gilded Balloon, catch camp staples Bob Down and Scott Capurro as well as the ageless god of laughter, Barry Cryer.
Other performances sure to raise a guffaw or two during the fest include the Youtube conquering ‘Axis of Awesome‘ and the internationally renowned ‘Puppetry of the Penis’ – in 3D (yes really).
Alternatively, you could just arrange your stay and take advantage of some of the daily cheap ticket promotions announced on the same day as certain performances – you might see tomorrow’s Peter Kay on a stage close enough to touch.
