Busy Liz – She’s Sparkling and New!

Blue Rainbow ApartHotels - Liz MearsAs she joined us so recently that we didn’t even have time to press-gang her into dressing up as Freddie for our Pride float (other Edinburgh staff weren’t so lucky), we’ve not even had chance to sit down and properly pick the brains of our new Edinburgh receptionist Liz Mears.

Well, let’s change that right now and publish everything she says on the internet, along with a photo that she REALLY doesn’t like (we think she looks lovely and you should tell her as well when you check in.) – job done!

Hi Liz, how are you finding life at Blue Rainbow ApartHotels so far?

It’s good! I’m loving the team, they’ve taken me under their wing and kept me on the right track – so far anyway! And no-one can have any complaints about working in the centre of Edinburgh – I love this city.

You’ve not been here long – what were you up to previously?

I worked as a virtual receptionist and PA for numerous businesses and sole traders. I’ve also just graduated from Edinburgh Napier University, having achieved a BA Hons in Business Management.

As a proper Edinburgher, have you got any top tips or must-sees for guests that come and stay with us in the city?

Well the top tip for Edinburgh is ‘stay for longer than one night’. There’s so much on offer it’s well worth stretching your trip over a couple of nights or more. Check out Stockbridge and the New Town for their architecture, quirky, beautiful boutiques, antique shops and plenty of places to eat beautiful Scottish food. And be sure to try out a local gin or fire water!

What’ve you enjoyed most during your brief time working at Blue Rainbow?

The best thing about working for Blue Rainbow is the team, first and foremost. Hospitality can be stressful and demanding, but everyone here works so well together and is really on-the-ball. I also like the concept behind the business and what it provides for guests.

Out of the blue, you’ve got the day off tomorrow (Erm, hang on! – Will) - what are you going to do ?

If I was given tomorrow off I would twist my boyfriend’s arm and make him take me out for dinner this evening and maybe see a couple of friends too. Then during the actual day off I would walk the dogs down at Crammond Beach to burn off the meal from the night before! For the rest of the day I would upholster whatever project I had on at the time, give the boyfriend some DIY jobs to do ;) then enjoy a relaxing night in.

We’ve been blogging away about all the goings-on up in Edinburgh recently (Fringe fest, tattoo, Royal wedding etc.) – have you managed to see any of it first hand?

No, I’ve been really bad this year and not been to see a single show or even the Royal wedding! Although I did at least manage to drink in the atmosphere of the festival while it was on over the last month.

Oh well. Now, everyone’s favourite interview question – who would be your dream guest for a Blue Rainbow stay?

My ‘guilty pleasure’ guest would be Mr Michael Fassbender. Love him, that German/Irish accent just does it for me! You’d have to chain me to this reception desk though, otherwise I would hold onto his leg and not let go. Seriously though, my all-time dream guest would have to be Sir David Attenborough. He’s the most lovely man and I wish I had been all the places in the world and seen all the weird and wonderful wildlife that he has. He would definitely be the ultimate guest.

Thanks Liz!

We know you’re reading this, Fassbender! Get your stay booked by contacting our reservations team (Link works for non-movie stars too).
