Pride Visitors – Exhibition Celebrating 21 Years

Manchester Pride 2011 sponsorWe’ve already taken plenty of bookings using the special promotion code PRIDE25 – for 25% off your stay, for guests that are staying at Blue Rainbow’s Manchester aparthotels to visit the Pride 2011 celebration. This is our first year as a main sponsor of Pride, but it’s by no means a new event – in fact this year is the 21st birthday of Pride.

Just across the water, at The Lowry Centre – Salford Quays’ famous arts and entertainment venue – there’s currently a multi-media exhibition being shown, commemorating the story, tradition and evolution of Pride. Using photographs, film footage, stories and memorabilia from visitors over the years, the installation displays the progression of this local and national institution, from a few stalls outside a Manchester pub to the vibrant, exciting, fundraising juggernaut it has grown into.

A Manchester Institution

See how the annual event has impacted on both LGBT communities and the wider area as a whole, in terms of raising awareness, charitable donations, tolerance and tourism, through the eyes of the people that attend each year. If you’re a first time visitor to Pride, this exhibition (Complete with awful pun title ‘Queer to Stay’) is a must-see to give you an understanding of the history and get you in the mood for this year’s celebration. And for seasoned Pride veterans, it should be a fun trip down memory lane.

The exhibition is on now and runs until the 16th of October, just a short tram or taxi ride from the front door of Blue Rainbow’s luxurious Manchester city-centre serviced apartments. Get in touch with our reservations team to arrange your stay (don’t forget the code PRIDE25 if you’re going to the festival!). For directions and details of the exhibition click here.
